Swamp Buggy Races in Naples, Florida

The World Famous Swamp Buggy Races in Naples, Florida

It’s a boat. It’s a truck. It’s a plane. It’s a…wait, what?!? A swamp buggy! If you’re new to the Southwest Florida area, you might also be new to the term swamp buggy. This motorized vehicle designed to drive through moggy swamp terrain dates back to the early 1930s. A Naples man, Ed Frank, helped pioneer a solution–enter the swamp buggy–to navigate through the Everglades as progress and development of the region began.

It became quite clear that Southwest Florida farmers and hunters became dependent on swamp buggies, not just for everyday outdoor work use, but for fun. More and more people began to build their own swamp buggies out of boats, tractor tires, and other surplus vehicles from World War II. Naturally, that was an invitation to start racing one another. So on November 12, 1949, the inaugural Swamp Buggy Race took place with 50 competitors from the Naples area along with a huge crowd of spectators.

One could say the unofficial vehicle of Southwest Florida is the swamp buggy because of its rich history.

So what does this vehicle have to do with the Naples Relocation Experts? Well, you’re in for a real treat! One of our favorite annual events to attend is the World Famous Swamp Buggy Races which continues to be hosted right here in our hometown of Naples, Florida.

This outdoor event is fun for the entire family. From toddlers to teenagers all the way to the grandparents, everyone in the family will be talking about this event for years to come. With six upcoming swamp buggy events happening over the next couple of months, you will have to plan a time to go check this out.
